The Song That Never Ends
Letting your intuition guide you can make self-education more enjoyable. Most of our lives have been broken down to completely logical decisions, that making choices on a whim has been stamped out. Productive people always wake up early. Use the first fifteen minutes of your morning as a period for education.
If you find yourself too groggy, you might want to wait a short time. Learn information you can use. Understanding the basics of programming allows me to handle projects that other people would require outside help. Meeting a situation that makes use of your educational efforts can be a source of pride. Few external forces are going to persuade you to learn. The desire has to come from within.
Once you decide you want to make lifelong learning a habit, it is up to you to make it a priority in your life. But keep in mind that the most important quality of a great lyric is authenticity. Lengthy lyrics compound problems. Try writing a simple verse such as four or six lines moving into a chorus with lots of repetition. Or, try starting a song with the chorus. Simplicity is hard to master, but worth pursuing. The longer a lyric becomes, the greater the potential for confusion. Collaborate as frequently as possible with good lyricists.

Individual differences You ask the question of why some people appear to be better than others at recalling lyrics. It's an empirical question as to whether there is a domain general difference. Presumably, it would reflect a combination of the above effects: e. Recalling melody versus lyrics You also ask about why you can recall the melody but not the lyrics. Thus, in the context where a person does not completely understand the lyrics, he or she may have years of practice hearing the melody, but almost no practice with a semantically meaningful understanding of the lyrics.
There would also presumably be a wide range of variables in the person that would make them better at recalling a melody in particular, pitch perception, singing, and musical ability come to mind as factors that should simplify the task of learning a melody. Then one could also look at characteristics of the melody which made it harder or easier to recall e. While I admire your attempt to deduce plausible causes, the problem in fact has absolutely nothing at all to do with decipherability , discernibility , or number of times heard.
Obviously those things or, more accurately, the lack thereof would negatively effect ability to remember lyrics, but are not deciding factors here.
The fact is that my brain does not subconsciously process lyrics when listening to music. However, if I listen to it once or twice and deliberately practice listening to and recalling the lyrics, then I will remember the lyrics for the rest of my life assuming relevant memory recall intervals are applied, often coincidentally due to me liking the song. I can do the same for a song I've only heard four or five times. On the other hand, I subconsciously remember and can deliberately recall melodies very precisely with absolutely zero intentional effort.
