It carries quality furniture donated from locals throughout Suffolk County. Shoppers can expect to find items a wide variety of gently used goods including furniture, household items, bric-a-brac, shoes, and other accessories. We accept furniture and other household items that are in usable condition and do not require any repairs.

We will not accept items with that are broken, torn, missing legs or drawers, that have major stains or deterioration, or other similar damage that will make it impossible to utilize without making repairs. The Society depends on donated goods to help us to serve the needy. Unfortunately, we do not have the resources to cover the cost of repairs; consequently, we must reserve the right to refuse any item that does not meet our standards. Likewise, we pride ourselves on offering quality used goods at our stores and this is a tradition that our customers have come to expect.

The hard work is already paying off, as sales are started to soar, as well. The results are encouraging as we move on to the next store. Planning and preparation are underway for our next Kaizen event which will take place at the Utica Store, November 18thnd. As a reminder, Kaizen events are short-duration projects with a specific aim for improvement.

Typically, they are week-long events led by a facilitator with the implementation team being predominantly members of the area in which the kaizen event is being conducted.

For this event, it will include team members from all stores, store volunteers, SVdPD board members and Central Office staff, including the leadership team. And hopefully a large group of Vincentians! This will be a tremendous undertaking for the group involved but will harvest great results in a short period of time. In order to make these needed changes, we need your help! Not only are we looking for individuals who are able to come and help us clean out our existing spaces, but we also need your help in thinking through how to efficiently set up our back area production rooms.

It was a busy week for the retail team as we kicked off our first Kaizen event at the Dixie Highway store. The group had a great challenge on our hands as we were aiming to completely clean out our production room and reset our process. Not only did everyone jump right in and get their hands dirty, they had great attitudes and helped to develop a system that will make production easier for the team.

I also want to thank all the store managers for all their hard work and dedication throughout the week. We could not have been successful without each and every one of you. I am a retail professional with over a decade of experience predominantly in thrift store operations. I was once asked how I choose the thrift industry; my response was it chose me. I started my career at Goodwill in Eugene, Oregon as a store supervisor.

I worked my way up to store manager, and then continued my career in Eugene ending as the Store Director of 10 retail locations. I was then recruited to Goodwill Industries Internationals office where I was able to consult across the Goodwill movement to improve the brand image.

  • I finished my career with Goodwill in Arizona where I went back to day to day store operations, supervising 10 stores producing over 28 million dollars in revenue annually. It was at that point that I was convinced to move from Phoenix to Michigan by a very charismatic, handsome man. I am happy to announce that we also just got engaged! I have been in Michigan for four years now. The twins, Jace and Kalen just turned 14 and are about to be headed into their first year of high school.

    Both are natural athletes and involved in every single sport on the planet it seems! His travel soccer team was just named fourth in his league for the state of Michigan. The semifinals are this weekend, so needless to say we are very excited to see how they do.
